Water feature maintenance
Keep your investment flowing beautifully
A well-maintained water feature is the key to preserving its beauty, functionality, and longevity. Whether you have a pondless waterfall, decorative fountain, or garden stream, regular care ensures your feature remains a peaceful and inviting focal point for your landscape.
Water features add elegance and tranquility, but they also require routine upkeep to prevent issues such as algae growth, pump malfunction, or water quality degradation. Proactive care not only keeps your feature looking pristine—it also protects your investment by extending the life of its components.

The cleaning process
When cleaning a pond, we always follow a specific process to ensure that a thorough job is done, and we leave you with a clean water feature to enjoy.
Before we begin, we always make sure of the following: The water feature is running properly, there is a nearby water and electric source, and the quality of the water (if the water is clear and the pond has fish, we will preserve some of the water to limit the amount of stress to the fish)
Next, we will drain the pond entirely and move any fish, frogs, etc. to a temporary water container
We will then pick up all loose debris (leaves, sticks, mulch, etc.) and begin to rinse
Then we will pressure wash all of the stonework, ensuring there is no algae remaining
After pressure washing, we will do a final, thorough rinse of all the gravel and stone. We will also clean all potted plants at this time
Finally, we will clean all filtration media from the biofalls and skimmer, as well as the pump
Now we can begin to fill the pond with fresh water (and some of the old water if clean enough) and return all wildlife to the pond
Pricing
Our rates for pond clean outs begin at $600. For new clients, our rates may rise due to the fact that we are unfamiliar with the water feature and don’t know what to expect. Rates are determined based on size, location and prior maintenance history.
Maintenance tips
-
Debris removal: Leaves, twigs, and dirt can clog pumps and filters. Skim the surface and clean the basin or reservoir as needed. Empty skimmer basket weekly if you have one.
Algae control: Use natural treatments or safe algaecides to prevent buildup. An IonGen system and beneficial bacteria can also help keep the water clear.
-
Check weekly: Ensure your pump is running smoothly and not obstructed. Clean the intake screen regularly to maintain optimal flow.
Winter storage: In freezing climates, remove and store pumps indoors to prevent cracking or damage.
-
Top off as needed: Evaporation can lower water levels, affecting pump performance. Keep the reservoir adequately filled.
Water treatments: Use eco-friendly additives to balance pH levels and reduce mineral buildup.
-
Spring start-up: Clean all components, inspect plumbing, and restart the system.
Fall netting: Remove debris, install netting to prevent foliage from entering the feature
Winterization: We recommend you run your feature year-round 24/7. In some instances, winterization may be necessary. Drain the lines and remove pump to store inside in order to prevent freezing.
